Paris Saint-Germain Boss Leonardo Keen on David Beckham

According to Emirates 24/7, Paris Saint-Germain are keen on signing Los Angeles Galaxy midfielder David Beckham when the MLS season ends in November.

The former Manchester United and Real Madrid star played under Leonardo — now PSG’s sporting director — at AC Milan during the 2009-10 Serie A season.

The Brazilian is quite fond of Beckham and has opened the door to potentially signing the English midfielder.

“I coached him at AC Milan and we created a good relationship,” said Leonardo.

“He is more than a football player, but when you see him every day he trains and plays like a kid.

“He is someone that I really appreciate and admire so much – his values and everything he has done in football.”

When asked whether the Ligue 1 outfit would consider signing Beckham, Leonardo said:

“The door is open. He is more than a football player – he’s a brand, a pop star. I would always consider him.

“He respects the rules, listens to you and wants the best for the team. That’s why for me he is a big example. I worked with him and that’s why I talk about his name.”

Beckham was “honoured” by the idea that Leonardo is keen on bringing his services, literally, to France.

“I like Leonardo a lot, he is a great manager,” the former England captain told Canal+ television yesterday.

“I’m honoured to know that he wants me to join PSG but I am a LA Galaxy player. It’s exciting, great things are happening in France. Leonardo has arrived, there’s a lot of money,” added Becks.

“I will wait until the end of the season and see how I feel and then I will decide. My children have been going to school in Los Angeles for the last five years. At their age, they need stability.”

Beckham has been on scintillating form in 2011, leading Major League Soccer with 15 assists in 25 games. The Englishman also leads the MLS with ten yellow cards, but that can be attributed to the fact that the Galaxy have featured Becks as a holding midfielder.

Nonetheless, Beckham has performed admirably in 2011. He has also bagged two goals to go with his league-leading 15 assists.

Since his highly anticipated arrival in 2007, Beckham has played some decent soccer. He was never going to live up to the hype of his five-year $250 million contract, but the Galaxy are surely glad they brought him to Los Angeles.

Aside from being the most marketable man in sports, Beckham can still provide tremendous quality on the pitch. Since 2007, Beckham has been plagued by injuries, appearing in just 73 games in five MLS seasons. In that time, Becks has scored 11 goals and bagged 31 assists.

Beckham will surely be targeted by others clubs in Europe in the upcoming weeks, but he has expressed a desire to remain in the MLS. Unless Anzhi Makhachkala offer him over $25 million a year, I expect Becks to stay in L.A.
