Paris Saint-Germain plots January move for Abidal; Del Piero undecided over future

Paris Saint-Germain plots January move for Abidal

Paris Saint-Germain have shown interest in Barcelona defender Eric Abidal, according to Spanish newspaper Sport.

The Frenchman has one year left on his contract with the Catalans and will be free to speak to interested clubs in January.

The 32-year-old has been offered a one-year contract extension by Barcelona chiefs but he wants a two-year deal.

Paris Saint-Germain are looking to take advantage of the situation and they have already prepared a contract offer for the France international.

If Abidal doesn’t sign a new contract by January, the Saints will offer him a three-year that would probably see him finish his career at Parc des Princes.

The French giants have already signed two high-profile defenders in Diego Lugano and Milan Bisevac, but they are not satisfied with the performances of left-back Siaka Tiene and want Abidal to replace the Ivorian in the starting line-up.

Del Piero undecided over future

Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero says he is not sure whether he will retire at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old has one year left on his contract with the Bianconeri, but he is adamant to give his best for the team before he retires.

“It’s not a recurring thought,” Del Piero told the Gazzetta dello Sport when asked about possible retirement.

“Yet knowing that this could be my last season is pushing me to give two hundred per cent.

“I’ve still not decided whether this will be my final campaign at Juventus or overall. But, in 20 years, I’ll be happy to look back on this adventure.”

Del Piero has featured in 677 games for Juventus after arriving from Padova in 1993, scoring 285 goals in the process.

Barcelona eager to keep hold of Gerard Deulofeu

Barcelona are hoping to keep hold of hotshot Gerard Deulofeu amidst interest from big European clubs.

Arsenal and Chelsea are reportedly keeping tabs on the 17-year-old winger and the Catalans are afraid of losing one of their hottest prospects.

The Spain Under-19 international currently has a €3 million release clause inserted in his contract.

According to El Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona are desperate to persuade the player into signing a new deal at Camp Nou, with the main purpose of increasing the amount of the release clause.

The 17-year-old is currently playing for Barcelona B, but he has made a couple of appearances for the senior squad during club’s North American tour earlier this summer.

Deulofeu is touted as one of the hottest prospects in world football at the moment.
