Parma agree deal for Varela

Portuguese media outlet O Jogo has learned that Parma are set to complete the signing of forward Silvestre Varela from FC Porto.

The two sides have reached an agreement for a six-month loan and the deal should be made official by the end of the day.

Sitting nine points behind safety in Italian Serie A, Parma are desperate to reinforce their ranks, and no doubt the Portuguese winger will be a good addition to the squad.

Varela spent the first half of the season on loan at West Bromwich, but he only made seven Premier League appearances, scoring one goal in the process.

The player who enjoyed several very successful seasons with FC Porto is expected to command a starting berth at Ennio Tardini, although it remains to be seen whether he can help I Ducali avoid the drop.

Parma recently completed a loan deal for Antonio Nocerino, while Uruguayan midfielder Cristian Rodriguez is also expected to join.
