Australian goalkeeper Caleb Patterson-Sewell will play in the Portuguese top flight next season after his move to Vitoria Setubal was confirmed.
The American-born 25-year-old has signed from second-tier outfit Atletico Clube de Portugal, who he joined in before the 2011/12 campaign after leaving North American Soccer League club Carolina Railhawks.
Reports of the former Liverpool and Sheffield Wednesday trainee’s move to Vitoria surfaced on Thursday, but the shot-stopper confirmed to Goal.com on Tuesday he had signed a deal at the club.
Patterson-Sewell immediately made the number one jersey at Atletico his own, keeping seven clean sheets in 11 appearances as the newly promoted club led the Liga Orangina by one point in December.
But the minnows struggled to maintain their form with a threadbare squad, enduring a change of coach in the second half of the season as they finished in 11th place on the table.
Patterson-Sewell’s 12 clean sheets in 29 appearances have done enough to impress Vitoria, who finished 11th in the Portuguese top flight under manager Jose Mota.
