Espanyol goalkeeper Pau Lopez was a target for Serie A giants Napoli, according to his official representative.
It is no secret that the Azzurri are in the market for a new shot-stopper with Pepe Reina set to leave on a free in June.
Following some impressive showings in La Liga, Espanyol star Pau Lopez was on their radar, but a move seems unlikely at the moment.
“There was contact with Napoli,” agent Albert Botines told Radio Crc.
“I talked to [sporting director Cristiano] Giuntoli in confidence, and I can say that yes, [Napoli’s] interest was there.
“Napoli, being a big club, are looking to sign more than one goalkeeper for next season, and it would be an honour for Pau to wear their jersey.
“However, he’s still young and I don’t know how much Napoli would play him, although the deal with Betis hasn’t been finalised yet.
“Maybe when the lad is more mature, Napoli could be an option, also because I think they’ll go for a more experienced goalkeeper after Pepe Reina.”
