Paul Merson believes that Atletico Madrid defensive midfielder Thomas Partey would be a brilliant signing for Arsenal.
The former Arsenal star has suggested that £45 million is not a lot of money to spend on a player like Partey.
According to Goal.com, Arsenal are interested in signing the Ghana international defensive midfielder on transfer deadline day.
It has been reported that the Gunners – who are rated at 9/5 byBetfair to finish in the top four of the Premier League table this season – have indicated to La Liga that they are willing to meet the £45 million release clause in the contract of the 27-year-old defensive midfielder.
Merson said on Deadline Day on Sky Sports (05/10/20 at 2:15 pm): “I think he’s a top draw player. I nearly fell off my chair, £45 million, I don’t think that’s a lot of money, at all for the quality of player you are getting here.
“The one thing he brings as well. Discipline. He has played at Atletico Madrid, who are one of the most disciplined teams in Europe and he would do that.
“He’s not a midfield player who goes running all over the place and you are thinking ‘where has he gone?’ He is very disciplined. I think he would be a great signing.”
