Championship outfit Leicester City have confirmed that Nigel Pearson will be the club’s new manager.
Pearson, who managed Leicester between 2008 and 2010, has re-joined the
King Power Stadium outfit on a contract that will keep him at the club
until the end of the 2013-2014 season.
Leicester sacked former manager Sven-Goran Eriksson last month before a
lengthy period of negotiation followed with Pearson’s former club, Hull
City, until an appropriate compensation package was agreed.
Assistant managers Craig Shakespeare and Steve Walsh have also joined
Pearson at Leicester, with the trio to start at their new club with
immediate effect.
“Craig, Steve and I are all extremely excited to be re-joining Leicester
City, working with the players and working closely with the Board of
Directors to achieve the Club’s aspirations,” Pearson told the club’s
official website.
The move to bring back Pearson and his staff, who led Leicester to the
2009 League One title and the 2010 Championship play-offs, has Leicester
City vice-chairman Aiyawatt Raksriaksorn excited.
“We are very pleased to have secured the services of Nigel, Craig and
Steve and we are sure that they are the men to lead this Club forward,”
Raksriaksorn said.
“Nigel is very well respected within the game and he and his team have
the knowledge of this division and the ability to motivate the players,
staff and supporters.”
“They achieved a great deal during their last spell at the Club,
rescuing Leicester City from its lowest position and coming so close to a
place in the Premier League. We are sure that this time around, with
everyone’s support and endeavour, they can take us one step further.”
Leicester, who spent an approximate 13 million pounds on bolstering
their squad, currently sit in 12th position on the Championship table.
After losing Pearson, Hull City announced that Nick Barmby will take on the role of caretaker manager.
