The ‘Eternal Derby’ of Belgrade, contested between Red Star and Partizan, unavoidably contains tension, and it was no different when the two sides met in the Serbian Cup final on Tuesday at the Rajko Mitic Stadium.
Red Star won the day by being better at taking penalties, after the 120 minutes of regular and extra time ended goalless.
Having scored Red Star’s third penalty kick, Nikola Krstovic squared up to Partizan goalkeeper Vladimir Stojkovic, yelling at him. Stojkovic reacted, a bit bizarrely, by pressing the ball against Krstovic’s face, and a wider conflict broke out immediately.
