Real Madrid defender Pepe is set to sign a new contract at Santiago Bernabeu, Cadena SER has learned.
The 33-year-old’s current deal is due to expire at the end of the season, but despite interest from abroad, the defender was hoping to remain with los Blancos.
Latest reports suggest that Real Madrid decided to offer Pepe a new one-year deal, with the agreement set to be made official in the coming days.
This will be the player’s third contract renewal since arriving from FC Porto back in 2007, having also signed new deals in 2011 and 2015.
Pepe has proved a very loyal servant to Real Madrid and he had a big role to play in all the achievement over the past nine years, lifting two La Liga titles and as many Champions League trophies.
The Portugal international made a total of 219 La Liga appearances, scoring 12 goals in the process.
