Nicolas Pepe of Lille is not on Liverpool’s radar, according to Liverpool Echo.
The local news outlet are notorious for destroying wild rumours when it comes to links between expensive players and Liverpool FC, and they appear to have struck again as they dismiss French media reports that the Champions League winners are poised to sign Pepe. They’ve recently also dispelled reports of the club’s interest in Ajax defender Matthijs de Ligt.
Manager Jurgen Klopp is very happy with the squad currently at his disposal having won the greatest accolade in club football and finishing second to Manchester City in the Premier League on 97 points, and it’s his stance that only minor tweaks are needed ahead of the 2019/20 season. Therefore, there will be no repeat of last year’s £170 million spending spree which saw the Reds acquire goalkeeper Alisson Becker, midfielders Fabinho and Naby Keita, as well as winger Xherdan Shaqiri.
Pepe’s fine form has attracted a number of big clubs and the price for his services isn’t going to be small, which would represent an investment Liverpool feel they don’t need to make at this moment.
