According to L’Equipe, ex-Real Madrid defender Pepe has formally turned down the chance to sign for Arsenal. The 35 year old, who isn’t the only Pepe linked with the Gunners (Nicolas), has been a free agent ever since leaving Besiktas. There’s been a great deal of speculation as to where he may end up, with Wolverhampton Wanderers even being included as a potential destination.
Now, though, the fog is starting to clear, and it’s becoming more and more apparent that he’s on the verge of joining Ligue 1 side Monaco.
Pepe would be joining the likes of manager Thierry Henry and incoming midfielder Cesc Fabregas, with Henry seemingly looking towards nostalgia in an attempt to get his side out of the current situation they find themselves in.
Monaco are lingering down in the relegation zone and with just a few months of the season remaining, Henry needs to do something big or he could end up getting the sack before he’s even really been able to put his own stamp on the team.
