Competition: A-League
Market: Perth Glory to score over 1.5 goals
Odds: 4/6 @ 888sport
All but officially confirming another top-six finish this summer, Perth Glory will face off against a downbeat Melbourne Victory at the Netstrata Jubilee Stadium in Sydney on Saturday morning.
Starting with Saturday’s temporary hosts, while the former A-League champions might be a side in desperate need of some stability, Perth did pick up a real morale-boost last week. Bouncing back from their dramatic 5-3 defeat against Adelaide and picking up a thumping 3-1 win against the Western Sydney Wanderers, the Purples have managed to all but officially secure another top-six finish this season. While Tony Popovic’s men might have drastically failed to match last year’s record-breaking campaign on the West Coast after picking up just a pair of victories since February 7th, the one-time Crystal Palace coach should take some solace from his side’s recent displays in front of goal. Along with putting three past Western Sydney last time out, the Purples have now bagged over 2.5 goals in back-to-back appearances for the first time since opening 2020.
As for the visitors, putting in what many felt was a season-worst display last weekend and hit with a 3-2 defeat against rock-bottom Central Coast, a dreadful Melbourne Victory could still lift the wooden spoon this summer. Enduring what has been nothing short of an abysmal campaign either side of football’s enforced break, caretaker boss Grant Brebner has a real crisis on his hands. Along with shipping a trio of strikes against their rival strugglers last time out, Melbourne have lost each of their three A-League contests since the restart and now find themselves in the midst of a woeful five-match losing run. In fact, with just four points to their name since the middle of February, they also have a real reputation for their glaring issues at the back. Along with a 4-1 hammering against Sydney earlier in the year, the Blues have shipped 15 goals on their five-match losing run.
