Serie B side Pescara have moved to confirm that star striker Gianluca Lapadula will probably be joining Napoli this summer.
The 26-year-old forward has been in excellent form this season, scoring 24 goals in 37 Serie B matches to help Delifini climb to promotion play-off positions.
Even if Pescara fail to return to the elite division, it is almost certain that Lapadula will be playing Serie A football next term.
And while Juventus and few more top clubs are showing interest in his services, Pescara chairman Daniele Sebastiani has revealed that Napoli currently lead the chase.
“Napoli are in a privileged position for Lapadula,” Sebastiani was quoted as saying in Il Corriere dello Sport. “I have always had a friendly relationship with (Napoli president) De Laurentiis and the boy feels the lure of such an important place.”
Born to a Peruvian mother, Lapadula is widely tipped to represent Peru at international level, but he has rejected several offers from La Blanquirroja coach Ricardo Gareca, insisting that he would make a decision at the end of the current season.
The highly rated forward has spent his entire career up to date in lower echelons of Italy’s league system, but he has made tremendous progress over the last couple of years.
