Manchester United and England defender Phil Jones will be offered a new £150,000-a-week contract in order to keep the talented centre half at the club, according to the Metro.
Jones’ current contract expires in 20 months and United are keen to keep hold of the defender who has finally found an extended spell of good form and fitness in the heart of Jose Mourinho’s side’s stoic defence. Once described by Sir Alex Ferguson as having the potential to be Manchester United’s greatest ever player, the 25-year old has become a key part of a Manchester United side with a hugely impressive defensive record.
The England international has formed a good relationship with central defensive partner Eric Bailly but Antonio Valencia is the only United defender other than Jones to have started every Premier League game this season. With the World Cup coming up next summer this is the perfect time for Jones to come into form and it is to the benefit of both the player and the club that United tie him down to a long-term deal.
