According to The Guardian, Kalvin Phillips has told Manchester City he wants to leave in January. The 28-year-old England international is reportedly of interest to Juventus, who are believed to have already entered negotiations with last season’s treble winners over a potential transfer, as well as Newcastle who are still looking to fill their ranks following the suspension of Sandro Tonali.
City boss Pep Guardiola has made it clear to Phillips there is no place for him in his plans, and the player has accepted the need to change clubs in order to increase his chances of making Gareth Southgate’s squad for the upcoming Euros next year.
Phillips’ representatives are in talks with City over a possibility of a loan move for the second half of the season, even though the Premier League and European champions would prefer a permanent transfer. All hope of the former Leeds midfielder having a future at the Etihad is practically gone.
