Barcelona defender Gerard Pique says rumours suggesting he does not get on with Spain team-mate Sergio Ramos have no foundation.
Media speculation has been rife that a fall out between the two occurred during this season’s Clasico between Barcelona and Real Madrid.
But while the 25-year-old conceded their respective clubs have brought about tension recently, he said there is no problem with Ramos.
“I get on fine with Sergio Ramos” Pique said “There was a lot of tension between the two teams.”
Pique admitted the absence of Barcelona and Spain team-mate Carles Puyol, who was ruled out of the tournament after knee surgery, is a big blow but indicated a willingness to make his partnership with Ramos work.
“We know where we’re headed at this European Championships and I feel proud to form part of the team and I am very happy to be playing beside Sergio,” he said.
“I have a good understanding with him as I do with Raul Albiol, and Javi Martinez, who can also both play in this position.
“Maybe I’ll have to work a bit more with Sergio but given his quality it’s very easy to play alongside him.”
Pique took the opportunity to reject claims he fell out with former Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola, despite starting just 17 games in La Liga last season.
“It was also said this season that I didn’t get on with Guardiola at Barcelona and that was never so,” he said.
