According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique wants to retire whilst still playing for the club at the age of 35. However, if he winds up losing his place in the starting XI or his level of importance within the squad, he wouldn’t be opposed to bringing that forward.
The date would be the summer of 2022 if he was to go ahead with this plan, ensuring that Barca fans can breathe a sigh of relief if they were panicking about just how old he is.
Pique has been a consistent force to be reckoned with at the back for Barcelona for many years now, and it seems as if that’ll continue to be the case for a few years to come.
Defenders always seem to give themselves a little bit more time than forwards or wingers when it comes to their retirement date, but for Pique, 35 is an age that makes sense.
