According to AS, Barcelona defender Gerard Pique is planning on retiring from professional football in 2020 in order to focus his attention elsewhere – on becoming a candidate for the role of club president in 2021.
The 31 year old first joined the club back in 2008 with this year marking his ten year anniversary at the Nou Camp, and it’s fair to say that he’s had a successful run with the Spanish champions. He is already considered to be a club legend with Barca and it doesn’t feel like he has any need to go elsewhere, especially given just how much the fans love him.
He’s young enough to the point where he could probably keep playing at the highest level for a good few years to come, but if his heart is set on things other than playing, then it may be smart for him to walk away before he starts to go on the decline.
