According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Andrea Pirlo is being lined up as a potential replacement for Ronald Koeman at Barcelona.
The club’s president Joan Laporta has reportedly delayed a decision to sack Koeman in the wake of their 3-0 defeat to Benfica in the Champions League. Alas, that doesn’t mean they aren’t looking around, with Pirlo reportedly being one of their primary targets.
Given the questionable nature of his stint at Juventus as manager, this definitely feels like an odd decision with respect to Barca and their hunt for a world class gaffer. Pirlo was one hell of a player but it just doesn’t really feel like he’s the kind of guy who is going to turn this ship around.
There’s every chance he could surprise us but experience is what Barcelona really need to steady the ship and the unpredictability of Pirlo in charge doesn’t feel very wise.
