Pirlo hints at Premier League move; Liverpool reignite interest in Jeffren

Pirlo hints at Premier League move

Juventus star Andrea Pirlo has hinted that he could make a move to English Premier League.

The 33-year-old is enjoying his time at Juventus, but admits he was very close to joining Chelsea some three years ago.

“Actually, Milan wouldn’t let me go,“ Pirlo told Daily Mail. “I have a very strong connection with Ancelotti so I was in touch with him when he went to Chelsea and I’m still in touch with him now he’s at Paris Saint-Germain.

“I had already started negotiating with the people at Chelsea but then finally Milan didn’t let me go. That’s why I stayed.”

However, the experienced midfielder doesn’t want to rule out a possibility of playing in the Premier League one day in the future.

“Maybe, who knows? I don’t know what might happen. You never know. I still have two years left with Juventus, this season and next.

“I like English football a lot. There are plenty of very good teams. They are very aggressive so it’s always entertaining to watch.”

Pirlo will have an opportunity to test his skills against English opponents when Juventus host Chelsea on Tuesday night.

Liverpool reignite interest in Jeffren

Liverpool are pondering January move for Sporting Lisbon winger Jeffren Suarez, according to Portuguese daily Record.

The Reds are desperate to reinforce their attack in January and are seriously considering a bid for the 24-year-old forward.

Brendan Rodgers believes Jeffren would be a great replacement for Stuart Downing, who is widely expected to leave Anfield in January.

Liverpool attempted to sign the player in the summer of 2011, but he eventually opted to join Sporting Lisbon.

Jeffren has proved his worth at Estadio Joao Alvalade despite the fact that numerous injuries prevented him from showing all he’s got.

The former Barcelona hotshot has scored 4 goals in 16 Primeira Liga appearances for the Lions, while failing to find the net in 8 Europa League matches.

Jeffren Suarez has been showing a lot of potential of late, but he has yet to prove he can consistently perform at a high level.

Napoli keen on Sampdoria hotshot

Italian newspaper La Stampa understands that Napoli are closely following Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang.

The Spaniard has been attracting a lot of attention with his showings this season and many see him as one of the most talented players in Italy’s top flight.

Chelsea, Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have all made a check on the 20-year-old, but Napoli are also believed to be interested.

Azzurri boss Walter Mazzarri is a keen admirer of Obiang and believes he would have a lot to offer at Stadio San Paolo.

Since Walter Gargano joined Inter on season-long loan, Napoli have been somewhat short of a physical presence in the centre of the park.

Pedro Obiang joined Sampdoria from Atletico Madrid in 2008, and has since made 47 league appearances for the club from Genoa.
