Pirlo to return for Milan against Torino

Italy midfielder Andrea Pirlo is set to make his comeback for AC Milan against Torino on Sunday, according to his boss Carlo Ancelotti.

Pirlo pulled a thigh muscle in training in September and has only played twice this season but now he could even come into the starting 11 with Gennaro Gattuso possibly making way.

“He could even play from the start,” said Ancelotti. “Rino (Gattuso) has done well in his place but Andrea has certain abilities that are vital for us, such as his long passes.”

Milan sit second in the Serie A table, just one point behind city rivals and champions Inter Milan.

Should Inter fail to beat Juventus in the 'derby of Italy' on Saturday night, Milan could take over top spot with a victory on Sunday.

However, their away form has not always been good against lower sides this season as draws at Cagliari and Lecce attest.

“We need to continue to do well away from home, like we did at Lecce, but with a different result, of course,” added Ancelotti.

“With respect to the draws with Cagliari and Lecce we faced teams that were in top form at the time.

“At Torino as well we won't underestimate them. There will be a fiery atmosphere and they will play with lots of passion.”\
