Piszczek has successful hernia operation

Borussia Dortmund full-back Lukasz Piszczek has undergone hernia surgery while he continues his recovery from a hip operation.

The 28-year-old underwent a scheduled hip procedure earlier in the close-season and has now gone under the knife to rectify a hernia issue.

Piszczek was a regular feature of the side that last season finished runners-up in the Bundesliga, UEFA Champions League and DFB-Pokal, all to rivals Bayern Munich.

A statement of the club’s official website read: “The long-planned surgery took place at the Knappschaft Hospital in Dortmund on Thursday morning and was performed by Dr. Karl-Heinz Bauer.

“According to BVB team doctor Markus Braun, the operation to both groins will not delay the Poland international’s healing process.

“In June Piszczek underwent hip surgery for damage to the cartilage of the joint and the femoral head, with an expected total recovery time of about five months.”

Piszczek featured on 29 occasions in the Bundesliga for Juergen Klopp’s side last season.
