There is an interesting story this morning in The Times, that claims some of the Chelsea players are challenging the authority of manager Luis Felipe Scolari.
The paper reports that several senior Chelsea players asked him to explain his substitutions after the 1-1 draw at home to West Ham.
In the game, Scolari replaced Ballack with Drogba at half-time and then replaced Joe Cole with Kalou with fifteen minutes left and Mikel with Belletti for the last ten minutes.
There are several strong characters in the Chelsea dressing room and Avram Grant has hinted that he struggled to cope with the ‘player power’ at the club.
Jose Mourinho also claimed that he was partly forced out of the club by some of the senior players turning against him.
Scolari is a great manager and it would be a tragedy if senior players with big egos were to make his time at the club less successful than it should be. If the story is true, I hope Scolari cracks down on the players. They have no right to question the decisions of a man who has achieved what Scolari has achieved.
