Competition: League One
Market: Plymouth to beat Charlton
Odds: 11/5 @ Bet365
While the international break may have brought an abrupt end to this weeks Premier League fixtures, League One continues to grow increasingly tight by the week. On Saturday afternoon, Charlton will play host to League One debutants Plymouth as Derek Adams side know that they still have a chance of securing back to back promotions.
For former MK Dons manager Karl Robinson, his Addicks side look resigned to accepting a second consecutive mid-table finish as a poor run of form has thrown their early season playoff dreams into jeopardy. Currently sat ninth in England’s third-tier, the former Premier League outfit now sit five points adrift of a top-six finish and more worrying for Charlton’s fans, they’re now without a win in their last four matches and have only managed to pick up three points twice at home in their last 12 attempts. While Charlton have scored a steady amount of goals this season, it has been defensively where they have struggled, the Addicks have now kept one clean sheet in their last 11 attempts, and just two clean sheets at The Valley since September 2017.
As for Plymouth, after being promoted from League Two last season, many believed that Dereck Adams’ side would struggle to extend their stay in England’s third tier past the first season. However, the Pilgrims know that the possibility of back to back promotions is still on the cards. Now sat sixth in the table, Adams’ Plymouth side now hold a two-point buffer over seventh place Peterborough and if the Pilgrims can extend their unbeaten run on Saturday afternoon, they could even leapfrog up to fifth in the table. While the automatic positions are out of sight, Adam’s side are unbeaten in their last eight League One appearances, winning seven of those and drawing the other, the Pilgrims have arguably been at their best away from home this year, Plymouth are now unbeaten in their last eight away matches, a run stemming back to December.
