Emanuel Pogatetz fears Turkish hitman and Middlesbrough team-mate Tuncay will join Chelsea in the January transfer window.
The £8million-rated striker has impressed in the first half of the season.
Reports says Boro are considering cashing in on Tuncay and Stewart Downing in January, moves that could see them earn around £20million.
Pogatetz said: “Tuncay’s one of our best players and I’d understand if Chelsea made a serious offer and he considered it.
“He’d have to because they can offer Champions League football and a push for a Premier League title but hopefully he’ll stay.
“There’s always speculation about our best players in the transfer window.
“But it’s important to keep them and I am confident we can. It’s not always vital we sell.â€Â
