Paul Pogba of Manchester United came very close to joining Paris Saint-Germain near the end of the summer transfer window, according to Sport Italia.
The French World Cup winner was heavily linked with Real Madrid throughout the summer, and he still is reportedly a target for the Los Blancos boss Zinedine Zidane as he seeks for a long-term successor for Luka Modric. However, it has now emerged that Pogba’s return to his homeland was very close to materializing.
Pogba’s agent, the notorious Mino Raiola, was apparently behind it, doing his best to link his client up with his international teammate Kylian Mbappe. But the deal fell through at the last possible moment due to Marco Verratti, who is also Raiola’s client, signing a new contract with the Ligue 1 champions, set to keep him at the Parc Des Princes until 2024. PSG’s need for Pogba was thus diminished and they consequently pulled the plug on the move.
