Scotland host Poland in Group D of the Euro 2016 qualifiers this week, and the Blues aren’t in the best shape to get a result. Gordon Strachan’s men previously looked on course to at least make the playoffs, but have suffered a badly-timed slump in form that could see them coming unstuck to a Poland side enjoying momentum ahead of Thursday’s meeting.

Fourth in the table after eight games, and four points adrift of third-place, Scotland can’t afford anything less than a win this week to stand a chance of making it through. The Blues have gone three games without a win in the group, drawing against the Republic of Ireland, while losing to Georgia and Germany. Such a poor run of results sees Scotland in poor shape to threaten a win against a strong Poland side despite having home advantage, but defeat would rule out the Scots’ hopes of making next year’s finals.

As for the visitors, Poland are coming off the back of two wins from their last three games. The European outfit are second in Group D, and still need to keep up their form to ensure they aren’t pegged back by Ireland in third-place. Poland could still finish top of the pack too, sitting just two points behind leaders Germany, so they won’t take Thursday’s game lightly.

Their questionable away form will give Scotland so hope, however, with the visitors having dropped points in their last two games on the road, but they’ll be spearheaded by an in-form Robert Lewandowski who will be hard to keep quiet.
