Looking to gain some much-needed momentum heading into this summer’s European Championships, Poland will welcome Iceland to the Stadion Miejski on Tuesday evening.
Starting with the hosts, despite dominating large spells against Russia last week in their opening friendly contest, Poland could only settle for a 1-1 draw on home soil and are a nation still seeking a bounce. Opening up this summer’s European Championships against Slovakia on June 14th, The Eagles are a squad that have now managed to muster just a single win from their last six matchups across all formats. However, smelling what is a golden chance on home soil in midweek and spearheaded by the record-breaking Robert Lewandowski, Poland boss Paulo Sousa has seen his side largely impress on home soil. Despite a hard-fought 2-1 defeat against Holland on Nations League duties last year, Poland have lost just a single home fixture in any of their previous 12 showdowns, a run that stems all the way back to November 2018.
As for the visitors, while Iceland might have managed to land themselves a 1-0 victory against the Faroe Islands last week, it was another far from convincing display from the European strugglers. Failing to book their spot at this summer’s European Championships after that heartbreaking one-off showdown against Hungary last year, The Blues have now lost eight of their last 10 matchups across all formats. Often outplayed against the Faroe Islands last week and coming under more scrutiny, Arnar Viðarsson’s side were also left stunned as they watched Armenia bag themselves a 2-0 win in their World Cup qualifying campaign back in March. Facing what should be another stern test when they travel to Poland on Tuesday evening and hit with a 4-2 defeat when the two nations last faced off, we’re backing a similar home victory here.
