Looking to build off their US Open Cup success in midweek, Portland Timbers will welcome a struggling Houston to Providence Park in the early hours of Sunday.

Starting with the hosts, coming off the back of a season-best performance in their empathic 4-0 win over LA Galaxy and booking their spot in the quarter-finals of this year’s US Open Cup, the mood in Portland’s camp will be on a high. Holding a three-game advantage over the teams around them and looking to climb off the foot of the Western Conference, Giovanni Savarese’s men have now lost just a single matchup since the start of May. A huge part of the Timbers’ recent revival has come thanks to their continued form at Providence Park. The hosts have won four of their last five matches in Oregon, scoring two or more goals in each of those victories.

As for the visitors, throwing away a two-goal lead and crashing out of the US Open Cup at the hands of Minnesota United in midweek, Houston are enduring a worrying run of form. With a close-fought 3-2 win over USL outfit Austin Bold their only win since the middle of May, it will be their continued struggles on the road giving Head Coach Wílmer Cabrera the biggest headache. The Dynamo are enduring a three-match losing run outside of Texas and have managed to record just a single away goal in over 300 minutes of action.
