Competition: Primeira Liga
Market: Porto win to nil
Odds: 5/6 @ Bet 365
Desperate to bounce back from their sluggish return to action last week, Porto will welcome Marítimo to an empty Estádio Do Dragão on Wednesday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Porto might still sit within striking distance of reclaiming their spot at the top of the Primeira Liga, the former European champions really struggled to find their feet last week. Hit with what was a shocking 2-1 defeat away at Famalicão, Sérgio Conceição’s men have managed to win just one of their last four matches either side of the break. However, with their sights solely set on lifting a 29th Portuguese crown this season, the Dragons will be glad to make a return to home soil in midweek. Including picking up a dramatic win against main title challengers Benfica back in February, Porto have collected 10 points out of a possible 12 over their last four contests at the Estádio Do Dragão. Picking up a 3-0 win the last time Marítimo came to town, Conceição’s men should be confident of making a return to winning ways this week.
As for the visitors, only managing to mark their return to action with a point against fellow strugglers Vitória Setúbal last week, Marítimo find themselves in the midst of a continued rut. Still looking over their shoulder at the drop zone and holding just a three-point buffer, Head Coach José Gomes has seen his side fail to win any of their last four Primeira Liga appearances, collecting just a single point on that winless run. There is no doubt that Wednesday’s guests will be hugely concerned by their side’s extended issues on the road. Including a 2-0 defeat away at Moreirense prior to the enforced break, Marítimo have landed just a sole away win since the end of August, including back-to-back defeats away from the Estádio dos Barreiros. Also failing to find the net in each of their last four away matches on the spin, Gomes’ men could be in for another long night in midweek.
