Both FC Porto and Benfica Lisbon did as expected on Sunday, to earn home wins over Rio Ave and Pacos de Ferreira respectively.

Argentinian Lucho Gonzales scored Porto’s opener from the penalty spot in the 36th minute, but Fabio Coentrao equalised for Rio Ave in the 72nd.

However, Porto remained focused and Ernesto Farias added goals in the 86th and 90th minutes to earn his side a 3-1 victory.

In Lisbon meanwhile, Benfica needed 69 minutes for Oscar Cardozo to score against Pacos, and Ruben Amorim added another, four minutes later.

Antonielton Ferreira got one back for the guests in the 76th minute but Angel Di Maria restored the original gap in the 87th. Chico Silva’s goal for 3-2 in the 90th minute came too late for the visiting side.

FC Porto lead with 38 points from 18 games, and Benfica follow at just one point.
