Portuguese newspaper Record understands that FC Porto are winning the chase for Atletico Mineiro midfielder Bernard.
The 20-year-old has become one of the hottest commodities in world football following some scintillating showings for club and country over the past year or so.
Atletico Mineiro chiefs did not want to cash in on their prized asset until club’s Copa Libertadores campaign came to an end, but with the Brazilian giants winning the coveted trophy, Bernard is finally expected to move to Europe.
Arsenal, Shakhtar Donetsk and Borussia Dortmund have all been keeping close tabs on the highly rated footballer, but it appears that FC Porto are winning the race for his signature.
According to Record, the Dragons are ready to meet Atletico’s €25 million asking price, and seeing as how the player also prefers a move to Portugal, the deal is expected to come to fruition early next week.
This is going to see Porto lure another one of world’s hottest prospects to Estadio do Dragao, although this will have been the first time they have spent so much on such a young player.
