Porto favourites to land Colombian striker

Talk Sport are reporting this afternoon that Porto are expected to win the race to sign Colombian striker Jackson Martinez.

Rumours suggest that the 25-year-old – who is currently playing his football for Jaguares de Chiapas in Mexico – looks set to move to the Portuguese club for around £7m.

This is despite previous interest from Liverpool who are not prepared to pay as much as the 2004 Champions League winners.

Speculation even suggets that with a fee agreed, the player’s agent – Maria Lara  – is already in Portugal to discuss personal terms.

Martinez has scored 33 goals in 64 appearances for his current club, while he has five goals in 13 appearances for his country.

Elsewhere, Talk Sport are also running a story linking Newcastle United midfielder Yohan Cabaye with a move to Premier League rivals Manchester United.

The Frenchman had a fantastic season for Newcastle of course, something that secured him a place in France’s Euro 2012 squad.

The Red Devils need to bolster their midfield too, so a move would make sense for Sir Alex Ferguson.

However, Newcastle are bound to be determined to keep hold of their star midfielder and will do everything they can to fend of interest.

As for what Cabaye himself has said about the rumours, he remained fairly neutral, saying: “Today I don’t want to know anything. That is what agents are for.”
