Real Madrid and Spain legendary goalkeeper who is currently plying his trade with FC Porto could make a Premier League move next summer.
The 36-year-old is nearing the end of his stay at Portuguese giants and several clubs have already expressed interest in his services. Casillas will have plenty of options to choose from as he decides whether to go back to La Liga with Real Betis and Sevilla said to be interested but Rafa Benitez has other plans.
The Spanish tactician is said to be willing to return for the experienced custodian he wanted to bring to England during the winter.
Magpies ended up signing Martin Dubravka on loan but the Newcastle managed is thought to still be in the market for a goalkeeper.
In the meantime, FC Porto are hoping to persuade Casillas to sign a new contract and remain in Portugal beyond the current season.
“I would like Iker to continue, anything is possible. I am very happy with him and the contributions he has made to the club since joining from Madrid. He is an exemplary role model.”, FC president Pinto da Costa told Marca.
