French daily newspaper L’Equipe has learned that FC Porto are weighing up a bid for Montpellier midfielder Benjamin Stambouli.
The Ligue 1 side will allow the youngster to leave the club for a transfer fee of €5 million, but they have yet to receive a concrete offer.
According to L’Equipe, Portuguese giants FC Porto are the only side considering a move for the 23-year-old at the moment.
The Dragons have been very active in the summer transfer window, and they will probably step up their interest in Stambouli if Steven Defour leaves Estadio do Dragao.
Stambouli has come through the youth ranks at Montpellier and has so far featured in 110 Ligue 1 matches, scoring 3 goals in the process.
Some strong performances for la Paillade last season saw him establish himself as one of league’s top central midfielders and with his deal expiring in a year’s time, the former France Under-21 international looks set to leave the club for greener pastures.
