Competition: League One
Market: Portsmouth win
Odds: 19/20 @ Bet 365
Now tipped by many as one of the leading early season contenders, Portsmouth will be looking to carry their impressive form in the final third when they host Shrewsbury on Saturday afternoon.
Starting with Kenny Jackett’s Pompey side, coming off the back of a very impressive 4-0 win against Gillingham in the EFL Cup, Portsmouth have started the new season in emphatic fashion. Now scoring 13 in their last five matches in all competitions, while the in-form Ronan Curtis will be unavailable after being called up to Ireland’s U21 squad, Pompey will be glad to see that last year’s top scorer Brett Pitman is available and also found the net against the Gills in midweek. Now scoring 11 in their last three matches at Fratton Park, we’re backing another successful afternoon for Pompey.
As for the visitors, after parting ways with Paul Hurst over the summer, Shrewsbury have been drastically short of form entering the new season. Coming off the back of a 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers in midweek, The Shrews are still yet to pick up a win in their opening six League One matches and after reaching the playoff final a few months ago, they now sit second bottom. Shipping three against Luton in their last trip on the road, this could be a tough afternoon for John Askey’s side.
