Competition: League One
Market: Portsmouth double chance
Odds: 1/2 @ 888sport
In a real showdown between two sides firmly battling it in the League One title chase, a struggling Hull will welcome Portsmouth to the KCOM on Friday night.
Starting with the hosts, while Hull might have really hit the ground running after losing their Championship status in woeful fashion over the summer, the Tigers have come crashing back down to earth in December. With their buffer at the top of the table cut down to just two points, Head Coach Grant McCann saw his side put in another worrying defensive display earlier in the week. Despite taking the lead away at Blackpool on Tuesday night, Hull eventually saw the Oranges grab a last-gasp winner at Bloomfield Road and leave with a dramatic 3-2 win. Now suffering back-to-back League One defeats for the first time this season after a 1-0 loss against Shrewsbury last time out at the KCOM, Friday’s hosts have failed to win any of their last four matchups across all competitions within 90 minutes. Also watching League Two outfit Stevenage end their FA Cup adventure last month, Hull could face another stern test on home soil.
As for the visitors, while Portsmouth would have been disappointed to have only settled for a 0-0 stalemate against Fleetwood on the South Coast last time out, Kenny Jackett’s men have found a recent boost. Playing themselves back into the automatic spots and knowing a victory at the KCOM would see them leapfrog Hull to top spot, the Blues find themselves enjoying a four-match unbeaten run across all formats, collecting 10 points. Still seen by many across League One as a leading contender in the promotion chase this season, Jackett will be most impressed by his side’s recent improvements at the back. Recording another clean sheet in midweek, Friday’s guests have now gone over 400 minutes without picking the ball out of their own net. Last seen on their travels picking up a 2-0 win against Ipswich, don’t be surprised to see Portsmouth leave with something to show for themselves this week.
