Former England international Nicky Shorey has signed for League Two strugglers Portsmouth until the end of the season, BBC Sport understands.
The 32 year old has been without a club since he was released by Bristol City last month, having made seventeen appearances for them this season.
Aside from a brief loan spell in the second tier with Nottingham Forest, the full back has spent the majority of the past eight years in the Premier League with Reading, Aston Villa, Fulham and West Bromwich Albion before moving to Ashton Gate in the summer.
He has two caps for his country, both of which came in friendlies in the summer of 2007 under Steve McClaren.
Shorey joins a Portsmouth side who sit in twentieth place in League Two, just three points above the relegation zone.
He could make his debut as Pompey travel to promotion chasing Oxford United on Saturday afternoon.
