Portsmouth’s bid for Zaki snubbed

Portsmouth are understood to have their bid to sign striker Amr Zaki turned down by Egyptian side Zamalek.

Earlier reports had suggested that the club had made a £3 million bid for the striker following Sulaiman Al Fahim’s takeover of the club had injected much needed funds into the south coast club.

However, Zaki’s agent Nader Shawki today told press that Zamalek have turned down the Premier League side’s approach.

Shawki said: “Portsmouth have made an official bid for Zaki, but Zamalek said they wanted to keep him and rejected any possbility of his exit.”

“Portsmouth offered three different solutions for Zamalek to get Zaki. They offered £3 million, or £2.5 million plus 50% of the next sale to buy him permanantly”

“They also made a £500,000 loan offer, but Zamalek aren’t ready to sell.”

Zaki rose to fame in Europe after impressive early form when signed for Wigan on loan last season, attracting the attention of the likes of Liverpool, Aston Villa and Real Madrid. However the striker fell out with members of the club and returned home with a permamant deal.
