Benfica might have to give up their Portuguese league lead this weekend, as the Lisbon outfit only managed a draw at Belenenses.

The leaders had won four matches in a row, including a 1-0 victory over Belenenses in the League Cup just six days ahead of Friday’s league clash. Belenenses were stronger at home though and kept their opponents from scoring.

Former leaders Leixoes Matosinhos didn’t do much better and were held to a scoreless draw at Maritimo Funchal.

Both Sporting Lisbon and FC Porto could surpass Benfica on Sunday, when they face Nacional Funchal and Sporting Braga respectively.
