The two teams that beat English sides in mid-week – Sporting Braga and Dynamo Kiev – will face off in the Europa League quarter-finals.
The draw for the second-tier European competition took place on Friday, with Villarreal set to face FC Twente, Benfica to take on PSV Eindhoven and FC Porto to go up against Spartak Moscow.
Sporting Braga will aim to capitalise on ousting Liverpool from Europe on Thursday, while the Ukrainian outfit are fresh from a 2-1 aggregate defeat of Roberto Mancini’s Manchester City.
None of the three Portuguese teams have drawn against each other, meaning all three could be either eliminated or be involved in the semi-finals following the second-leg ties on April 14, with the first legs set for seven days earlier.
The winner of Porto-Spartak Moscow will face either Villarreal or FC Twente in the semi-finals, and Braga or Dynamo Kiev will do battle against the victor of Benfica-PSV Eindhoven in the final four.
The Europa League final will take place at Aviva Stadium in Dublin on May 18.
