The gap with FC Porto and Sporting Lisbon remains four points as the latter earned a 0-1 win at Leixoes Matosinhos on Sunday. Benfica won 1-2 at Estrela Amadora.

Only one goal was needed for Sporting to take three points from their match with Leixoes, and the difference was made by Brazilian striker Derlei in the 13th minute.

The match between Estrela and Benfica was one that was entirely decided by penalties. Benfica were given two spotkicks in the first 15 minutes, both converted by Oscar Cardozo.

Varela then scored from the spot to give Estrela fresh hope in the 29th minute, but Benfica held on to their lead.

With seven games to go, Porto have four points more than Sporting. Benfica follow at another point.
