Fiorentina coach Cesare Prandelli says his team got scared in the 1-0 defeat to Siena in the Tuscan derby on Sunday.

“We were in the game for an hour and in fact took control, but then we got scared and let Siena take over,” said Prandelli after the match.

“We lacked grit and determination, especially in the penalty area. We were consistent up until a few days ago, now we have to get that back.

“Adrian Mutu has recovered and when he is on the field the team has a different character. Riccardo Montolivo was rested because we have many important games coming up.”

Houssine Kharja scored the only goal of the match.

“It is a great day for the club and the fans,” said Siena coach Marco Giampaolo. “As far as I am concerned, it was important to get the three points that were deserved considering our performance.

“We played against a very strong side that impressed me in physical, technical and tactical terms.

“I admit we struggled a great deal for an hour, but having said that we could have doubled our lead on the counter-attack.”
