Mario Balotelli has apologised to Italy boss Cesare Prandelli for the petulant behaviour that saw him sent off for Manchester City last week.
The Italian striker received a straight red card for a high foot against Dynamo Kiev in the Europa League on Thursday, and has subsequently been dropped by Prandelli for Italy’s Euro 2012 qualifier against Slovenia on Friday.Daniele De Rossi was also omitted from the Italian squad, but Prandelli said both he and Balotelli would be considered in the future.”I spoke with Balotelli and he is sorry what happened. He has asked me for help, he knows he was stupid, and he asked how he can stop himself from destroying everything,” Prandelli said.”However, we keep him in consideration. As for De Rossi, I have not spoke with him. But, the exclusion is just for one game, so we will see what happens for Ukraine.””We must win, but we have to remember to be loyal and sportsmanlike. The code of ethics will go ahead at all costs, if not then we are not credible. Everyone agrees with it, and no-one has rejected it.”Veterans Francesco Totti and Alessandro Del Piero were also left out despite their recent good form in the Serie A, but Prandelli said he was focused on developing the youth in his side.”Seeing that this is just a game for fun, if I need Totti and Del Piero for the Euros then I will call them,” he jokingly said.”But, my project is focused on players of a certain calibre who offer prospective, as my project is for the future.”
