Manchester United opened their pre-season account on a high note with a 1-0 win over South African side Amazulu.
A first-half goal from Federico Macheda ensured that United recorded a positive start to their summer tour.
Amazulu’s first chance of note came in the form of a looping Ayanda Dlamini off-target effort which caught the United defence out, only to see Macheda run up the other end and break the deadlock after 20 minutes to give the visitors a 1-0 lead.
The Italian ran into a Scott Wootton delivery with pace before running through on goal and slotting a cool finish past Kapini in the Amazulu goal.
New signing Shinji Kagawa made his United debut just before stoppage time, much to the delight of the Durban crowd.
Meanwhile, a debut goal from Gylfi Sigurdsson helped Tottenham to a 2-0 win over Stevenage.
The midfielder, who spent six months on loan at Swansea City last season, made an instant impact after coming on as a substitute in the second period as he drilled home the opening goal of the game from an Andros Townsend’s corner.
Iago Falque made it 2-0 just before full-time to make sure of the win.
Young striker Harry Kane proved to be at the centre of most of the Tottenham play early, twice going close inside the opening 30 minutes.
First, he was denied by a stunning stop from Stevenage keeper Chris Day after latching onto a through-ball from Steven Pienaar, before the youngster nodded a diving header just wide following an inch-perfect cross from Kyle Walker.
