Predicting this weekend’s major FA Cup fixtures

There are a bevy of FA Cup matches scheduled for this weekend, with Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal the major clubs that are still in the competition.

In this segment, I will, to the best of my ability, predict the outcomes of the four major FA Cup fixtures taking place this weekend.

Watford v. Tottenham Hotspur

Spurs will take on Watford at the Vicarage Road Stadium on Friday night.

Despite suffering a crushing loss in the final moments of the game versus Manchester City last weekend, expect Spurs to advance quite comfortably.

A 2-0 scoreline seems fair enough. Look for England international Jermain Defoe to get on the score-sheet.

Queens Park Rangers v. Chelsea

Mark Hughes has yet another tough task on Saturday, when QPR host Andre Villas-Boas and Chelsea at Loftus Road.

Despite Chelsea’s mediocre form, the Blues are five points ahead of Arsenal for fourth place, the last UEFA Champions League qualifying position in England.

Picking Chelsea has been quite dodgy this season, but I’ll give it another go.

Fernando Torres can not buy a Premier League goal at the moment, but surely he can bag one in the FA Cup against Queens Park Rangers.

2-1 Blues, at least that’s what Chelsea fans are hoping.

Liverpool v. Manchester United

The most attractive match-up this weekend is surely Liverpool v. Manchester United.

Forget the fact that they are bitter rivals.

Liverpool are fresh off a tremendous 3-2 League Cup aggregate triumph over Premier League leaders Manchester City, while United knocked out their “noisy neighbors” in the last round of the FA Cup.

This one is a tough one to call, but I fancy United to win 2-1 just because they are more clinical in front of goal.

Look for Chicharito Hernandez to finally regain his 2010-11 form in this one.

Arsenal v. Aston Villa

Arsenal will play hosts to Alex McLeish and Aston Villa on Sunday.

It’s hard not to fancy the Gunners in this one.

The player to watch for Arsenal is without a doubt Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who shined in the Gunners 2-1 loss to Manchester United last weekend.

Look for the Gunners to utilize their blistering pace and boss the game from the first whistle.

A victory seems more than attainable for Arsene Wenger’s side, while a loss could be absolutely devastating for the club’s psyche.

That being said, I fancy the Gunners to score at least two goals in a winning effort.

That’s all for today. Don’t forget to watch the FA Cup this weekend!
