Aberdeen and Rangers will face each other in the Scottish Premiership this week. The match between the Dons and the Gers will be held at the Pittodrie Stadium and is scheduled to kick off at 8pm UK time on Tuesday evening.
Aberdeen
Aberdeen are one of the biggest clubs in Scotland and have been much successful of late. The Dons ended up second in the Scottish Premiership table for four successive seasons from 2014-15 to 2017-18 before dropping down to fourth in the standings from 2018-19 to 2020-21. However, Aberdeen struggled last season and finished as low as 10th in the Scottish Premiership table, just five points above 11th-placed St. Johnstone.
Jim Goodwin’s side are doing better this time around and are very much in the running for the third spot in the Scottish Premiership table behind Old Firm clubs Celtic and Rangers. Aberdeen currently find themselves third in the standings with 25 points from 16 matches, as many as 11 points behind second-placed Rangers.
Aberdeen will head into the Scottish Premiership match against Rangers at the Pittodrie Stadium on the back of a 1-0 defeat to defending champions Celtic at home in the league. It followed a 1-0 home win against Dundee United in the Scottish Premiership back in November.
Team News:
Aberdeen will be without Callum Roberts due to a hamstring injury.
Rangers
Rangers are one of the two biggest clubs in Scotland, but the Gers are not having the best of times at the moment. The Ibrox club are second in the Scottish Premiership table at the moment with 36 points from 16 matches, as many as nine points behind leaders and defending champions Celtic. If Rangers are to get back into the title race this season, then they will need their bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic to collapse.
Michael Beale is now in charge of Rangers, who got rid of Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their manager earlier in the year. Rangers reached the final of the UEFA Europa League final last season and also progressed to the UEFA Champions League group stage this campaign under the Dutchman. However, Rangers lost all six of their games in Europe’s premier club competition this campaign.
Rangers will head into the match against Aberdeen on the back of a 3-2 victory over Hibernian at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership. It was Beale’s first game in charge of the Gers, with the former Liverpool coach having recently left his role as the manager of Queens Park Rangers to take over at Rangers. The Gers had played out a 1-1 draw with St. Mirren away from home in the league in November before the break for the 2022 Qatar World Cup.
Team News:
Rangers will be without Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, John Souttar, Ridvan Yilmaz, Nnamdi Ofoborh, Ianis Hagi and Tom Lawrence.
Key Factors to Consider
- Rangers have scored 37 goals in 16 Scottish Premiership matches.
- Rangers have conceded 16 goals in 16 Scottish Premiership matches.
- Aberdeen have scored 29 goals in 16 Scottish Premiership games.
- Aberdeen have conceded 24 goals in 16 Scottish Premiership games.
- Antonio-Mirko Colak has scored 11 goals for Rangers, same as Bojan Miovski for Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.
Conclusion
Rangers are far from great despite the arrival of Michael Beale. After all, the former Scottish Premiership champions conceded as many as two goals in their last league game. Playing at home will give Aberdeen an advantage, and it is very likely that they will score. However, Rangers are good at scoring themselves, and the Gers should be able to eke out a narrow win.
