AC Milan and Atalanta will lock horns with each other in the Coppe Italia this week. The quarter-final tie between Stefano Pioli’s side and Gian Piero Gasperini’s team will be held at San Siro and is scheduled to kick off at 8 pm UK time on Wednesday.

AC Milan

AC Milan are one of the biggest clubs in the world and are an Italian giant. After years of struggling to compete for major trophies, they are now back to being a force to be reckoned with. The Rossoneri are challenging for the Scudetto and are playing in the UEFA Champions League again.

Milan are third in the Serie A table at the moment. Stefano Pioli’s side are third in the league standings with 39 points from 19 matches. They are nine points behind leaders and city rivals Inter Milan and are seven points worse off than Juventus in second.

The Rossoneri will head into the Coppa Italia quarter-final tie against Atalanta on the back of a 3-0 victory over Empoli away from home in Serie A. It came after a 4-1 victory over Cagliari at San Siro in the Coppa Italian which followed a 1-0 win against Sassuolo at home in Serie A.

Team News:

AC Milan are likely to line up in a 4-3-3 formation. Maignan will be in goal for the Rossoneri and will have Calabria, Kjaer, Hernandez and Florenzi in front of him in defence. Reijnders, Adli and Loftus-Cheek will be the three midfielders. Pulisic, Jovic and Traore will be the three forwards. Fikayo Tomori, Malick Thiaw and Pierre Kalulu are all out injured for Milan. Tommaso Pobega and Noah Okafor are also unavailable.

Atalanta

Atalanta are one of the fascinating teams in Europe who play wonderful football and are threatening to establish themselves at the top table in Serie A. They have played in the UEFA Champions League in recent season and start every campaign now looking to do so.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s side are sixth in the Serie A table at the moment with 30 points from 19 matches. They are only three points behind Fiorentina in fourth. Although Atalanta are unlikely to challenge for the Scudetto this season, they could finish in the UEFA Champions League places.

Atalanta will head into the Coppa Italian tie against AC Milan on Wednesday evening on the back of a 1-1 draw with AS Roma away from home at Stadio Olimpico in Rome in Serie A. It came after a 3-1 victory over Sassuolo at home in the Coppa Italia which followed a 1-0 victory over Lecce in Serie A.

Team News:

Atalanta are likely to line up in a 3-5-2 formation against AC Milan. Musso will be in goal. Scalvini, Djimsiti and Kolasinac will be the three defenders. Zappacosta, De Roon, Pasalic, Koopmeiners and Ruggeri will be in midfield and have Muriel and Scamacca in front of them in attack. Ademola Lookman is not available because he is away at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Key Factors to Consider

  • AC Milan have won their last three matches in all competitions.
  • AC Milan have won 5 of their last 6 matches in all competitions.
  • Atalanta have won 4 of their last 6 games in all competitions.
  • Olivier Giroud has scored 10 goals and given 6 assists in 22 matches in all competitions for AC Milan this season.
  • Gianluca Scamacca has scored 6 goals and given 2 assists in 17 games in all competitions for Atalanta this campaign.
