The Serie A season is set to come to an end over the course of the next few weeks, and while it isn’t how any of us pictured this campaign going, it’s nice to know that we’ll get some kind of conclusion one way or the other. The game we’re going to be taking a look at today features two clubs who could be real forces to be reckoned with in the next few years: AC Milan and Atalanta. Sure, they’ve had their setbacks, but it finally seems like they’re both starting to put it all together.
AC Milan
Based on the form they’ve been on in recent weeks, AC Milan should probably be title contenders. They tore through Lazio in a ruthless 3-0 display before orchestrating an unbelievable comeback against Juventus, beating the reigning champions 4-2. They went on to draw 2-2 with Napoli prior to a fantastic three-game streak that saw them beat Parma, Bologna and Sassuolo, scoring 10 goals in the process.
Team News
One of the biggest problems of all for Milan, quite clearly, is their injury issues. In addition to Bennacer’s red card they also face the prospect of being without the following players due to various injuries: Castillejo, Mussachio, Duarte, Paqueta, Romagnoli, Hernandez and Conti.
Atalanta
Atalanta are considered by many to be one of the favourites to reach the UEFA Champions League final this year based on their side of the draw – and that’s saying something. Since the start of June they’ve been on one hell of a tear, starting with a narrow 1-0 win against Cagliari. They proceeded to beat Sampdoria 2-0 before a somewhat underwhelming 2-2 draw against Juventus given that they had the lead. They then dismantled Brescia 6-2, drew 1-1 with Verona and edged past Bologna to set up an epic end to the season.
Team News
Some are expecting the visitors to rest a few players for the trip to Milan, with Sutalo being tipped to feature as a result. The only confirmed absence for Atalanta is Castagne, as he will be sitting out through suspension.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting back in December, Atalanta battered AC Milan 5-0.
- AC Milan have won five and drawn one of their last six games.
- Atalanta have won four and drawn two of their last six games.
- AC Milan have scored 19 goals and conceded seven in their last six games.
- Atalanta have scored 13 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
Conclusion
Considering how both teams have performed over the course of the last few months, we wouldn’t be at all surprised to see one of the games of the season take place when they square off. Yes, it’s going to be scrappy, and it isn’t going to be a clinic from either side, but we do believe it’ll be entertaining. That’s why we’re going to predict a high scoring draw that all but confirms Juventus’ spot as the Champions of Italy for yet another year.
