While Serie A has been rattling through the fixture list over the course of the last few weeks, every single team in the top flight still has eight games left to play as we look ahead to what is bound to be a grandstand finish to the Italian football season. Today, we’re going to take a look at the impending clash between AC Milan and Juventus with both clubs still having an awful lot left to play for between now and the campaign coming to an end.
AC Milan
The away goals defeat to Juve certainly would’ve hurt Milan, but they were able to bounce back pretty quickly with a few really important wins over Lecce and Roma. It quickly became clear that goalscoring wasn’t going to be a substantial issue for them, but they still have some problems at the back, which was highlighted in their 2-2 draw against Spal. With a returning Zlatan Ibrahimovic in the team against title contenders Lazio, though, they impressed a lot of people in a 3-0 win.
Team News
Castillejo, Musacchio, Calhanoglu and Duarte have all been ruled out through injury with Saelemaekers expected to feature for Milan.
Juventus
With six games under their belt since the restart, it’s been a busy old time for the kings of Italy. After they knocked Milan out of the Italian Cup, they played out a 0-0 final with Napoli before losing on penalties. They clearly didn’t take the loss all too well, hitting back in the league with a 2-0 triumph over Bologna and a 4-0 demolition of Lecce. They proceeded to stick three past Genoa and four past Torino, proving once again why they’re the clear favourites to win the title.
Team News
There are a whole lot of absences for the Old Lady to deal with as Dybala & de Ligt are suspended, whereas the following players will not play due to injury: Sandro, De Sciglio, Khedira, Demiral and Chiellini.
Factors to Consider
- In their last meeting on June 12th, Juventus and AC Milan drew 0-0 in the Italian Cup.
- AC Milan have won three, drawn two and lost one of their last six games.
- Juventus have won four, drawn one and lost one of their last six games.
- AC Milan have scored 12 goals and conceded five in their last six games.
- Juventus have scored 13 goals and conceded two in their last six games.
Conclusion
While Juve are quite clearly the most dominant team in Italian football, they have struggled to really break Milan down on the last few occasions that they’ve faced off against one another. Defensively speaking there are still a few issues to rectify for the hosts, but for whatever reason, they continue to frustrate the Old Lady when they play. We think this is going to be a game that doesn’t really get the neutrals going, but what it will do is give Lazio hope that they could catch Juventus in the title race – because we’re predicting a draw.
